| Report By Liz King, RYA NE PR Communicator. 20th February 2012 It has been a hectic few months for 17 yr old Helen Armstrong from Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club and her pre-season activities are getting better and better. Helen was presented with the prestigious Trident Trophy at the annual RYA (Royal Yachting Association) North East Spring Conference at Sunderland Yacht Club last weekend. The Trident Trophy is presented annually by the RYA NE Region to the winner of the RYA North East Young Sailor of the Year. Helen won the award for her skill in 2011 in her Laser dinghy, as well as for her voluntary services to Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club where she is a keen member. "Here at Trident we are always glad to support the young sailors across the north east," said Jackie Gebhard, co-director of Trident UK, the Gateshead based sailing equipment specialists, "and Helen is a popular and worthy winner." "This is the 12th year of presenting the Trident Trophy and some excellent sailors have won it over the years, many of whom have gone on to win national and international recognition in their sport." |
