Clear Wood Sealer Fast Dry is a quick-drying, high-build, clear, two-part polyurethane primer for use before varnishing or painting.

Clear Wood Sealer Fast Dry penetrates deep into wood, sealing the substrate and filling the grain to provide a smooth, impact, scratch and wear-resistant surface ready for overcoating. Fast-drying properties enable the application of up to 4 coats in one day. Clear Wood Sealer Fast Dry can be used under International one and two-part varnishes and finishes to reduce overall work-time, increase durability and improve final aesthetics.

    Application Details

  • Use above waterline (Not suitable for areas permantly under the water, but great for dinghies which aren't kept in the water)
  • Thinners: Use Thinners No.9
  • Number of Coats: 4 coats minimum or until the wood grain is filled (the number of coats will depend on the porosity of the wood)
  • Method of application: Brush / Roller


    • Surface preparation and application

    Previously varnished wood

  • In good condition: (Two-part only) Clean with thinners. Sand smooth
    with 280-320 grade paper. Remove sanding dust with thinners.
  • In poor condition or over existing one-part coatings:
    Remove all previous coatings. Follow bare wood preparation.

    Preparing bare wood

    Sand smooth with 180 and then lightly with 240 grade paper. Remove sanding dust by brushing, dusting and wiping.
    If wiping with thinner allow the surface to dry completely before applying the first coat.
  • Oily Woods e.g. Teak: After sanding, degrease surface thoroughly with thinners. Apply the first coat of Clear Wood Sealer
    immediately after the solvent has evaporated, to avoid adhesion problems caused by oil in the substrate.

    Application (brush/roller)

    Mix the amount you expect to use in a separate container. Add the curing agent to the base, stir and leave for 10 minutes
    to allow any bubbles to disperse. Thin first coat 25% and apply by brush to achieve penetration, followed with a minimum of
    3 full coats or until the wood grain is completely filled. If using a roller for subsequent coats, thin each coat by 10% to assist
    with application. Sanding is not required between coats, however sanding with 320 grade paper between coats will improve
    the final aesthetics. Once dry, Clear Wood Sealer Fast Dry should be overcoated with a suitable varnish or finish from the
    International range.
